ALASKA AIRLINES CENTER
University of Alaska
With The Rooney Sports and Entertainment Group, David worked with the University of Alaska-Anchorage in the planning of the 5,500-seat Alaska Airlines Center, which opened in 2014 on the UAA campus. The facility hosts UAA basketball, volleyball, and gymnastics programs, as well as concerts, community events, and the university-sponsored Great Alaska Shootout basketball tournament.
We consulted with the university related to various planning aspects of the facility, such as understanding the local competitive environment for events, challenges with attracting touring events to Anchorage, the scheduling of university and non-university events, formulating the arena's business plan, and others. We were then engaged to guide the university through the RFP and selection process for a management firm, ticketing partner, marketing firm, and food and beverage provider. Throughout this process, we helped the university identify potential partners, write RFI and RFP documents, evaluate proposals and interview firms, develop partnership terms, and recommended the selection of specific companies. With our guidance, the university hired Global Spectrum (now Spectra) and its affiliates to oversee all aspects of facility operations.
